How do I add videos to VidPlay?
Open the Library tab and tap the + button in the top-right corner. You have three options:
- From Photos — pick videos from your Photos library through the standard iOS picker.
- From Files — pick videos from the Files app (including iCloud Drive folders you have access to).
- AirDrop — share any video to VidPlay from another iPhone or Mac. The video imports automatically and appears in your Library.
Videos already on your iPhone Photos library also appear in the "From Photos" section automatically, no import needed.
How do I play a video?
Just tap any video card in the Library or Files tab. The player opens fullscreen. Tap once on the video to reveal the playback controls; tap again to hide them.
What gestures does the player support?
- Tap centre — show / hide controls.
- Double-tap left side — rewind 10 seconds. Double-tap right side — forward 10 seconds.
- Vertical swipe on the left side — adjust brightness.
- Vertical swipe on the right side — adjust volume.
- Horizontal swipe — scrub through the video with a preview thumbnail.
Features
How do I extract MP3 audio from a video?
Go to the Tools tab → Extract MP3 from video. Choose a video, then tap Extract audio. The audio file is saved to your VidPlay outputs and you can share it via the share button.
Free tier: 3 extractions per day. Premium: unlimited.
How do I compress a video?
Tools tab → Compress video. Pick a video and a quality preset (480p / 720p / 1080p). VidPlay shows an estimated output size before starting. The compressed file appears in My outputs when done.

How do I convert between formats?
Tools tab → Convert format. Supported targets: MP4, MOV, M4V (lossless container repackage when possible).
How do I trim or cut a video?
Tools tab → Trim / cut. Pick a video, drag the two handles on the timeline to mark the start and end of the segment you want to keep, then tap Trim segment. The trimmed clip lands in My outputs.
How do I switch themes?
Settings tab → Themes. VidPlay comes with 8 themes — 2 free (Cinematic Dark and Minimal Light) and 6 unlocked with Premium (Neon Cyber, Glassmorphism, Retro VHS, Aurora, Galaxy, Sunset).
What is Picture in Picture and how do I use it?
While a video is playing, tap the Picture-in-Picture button in the top-right of the player controls. The video shrinks to a floating window so you can keep watching while using other apps. iOS may also automatically activate PiP when you swipe to the Home Screen during playback.
Can I keep listening to audio when I lock my phone?
Yes. While playing a video, lock your iPhone — the audio continues. Tap the lock-screen widget to play / pause / skip.
How does the sleep timer work?
In the player controls, tap the moon icon at the top-right. Pick a duration (5, 15, 30, 60 minutes, or until the end of the current video). Playback pauses automatically when the timer fires.
My video format is not supported. Can you add it?
VidPlay v1.0 supports MP4, MOV, M4V, 3GP, and HLS streams via AVFoundation (Apple's built-in video framework). Other formats (MKV, AVI, FLV, WMV, OGV, WEBM) are planned for a future update.
Premium & purchases
What does Premium include?
- All 8 themes — plus every theme added in future updates, free.
- Unlimited MP3 extraction.
- Unlimited video compression.
- No ads.
How do I upgrade to Premium?
Open Settings → tap Upgrade. You'll see three plans: Weekly, Yearly (with a 3-day free trial), or Lifetime (one-time, includes Family Sharing). Choose one and confirm the purchase with Face ID / Touch ID through Apple's standard prompt.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by VidPlay. To cancel:
- Open Settings on your iPhone (the iOS Settings app, not VidPlay).
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Find VidPlay and tap it.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
Your Premium access continues until the end of the current billing period.
How do I restore purchases on a new device?
Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account that made the original purchase. Open VidPlay → Settings → tap Restore Purchases. Premium will reactivate within a few seconds.
Lifetime owners on a Family Sharing group: Premium reactivates automatically for family members signed in to their own Apple Accounts.
I want a refund — what do I do?
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by VidPlay. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and request a refund for the relevant purchase. Apple typically responds within 24–48 hours.
I was charged but Premium did not unlock.
Try the following, in order:
- Force-quit VidPlay (swipe up and off from the app switcher) and re-open.
- Open Settings → tap Restore Purchases.
- Make sure your iPhone has an active internet connection.
- Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account that made the purchase.
If Premium still does not activate, email us with the transaction date and the email address of your Apple Account — we'll investigate with Apple support.
Privacy & data
Do my videos leave my phone?
No. VidPlay does not upload videos anywhere. All editing tools run entirely on your device.
What data do you collect about me?
Anonymous usage events and crash reports through Firebase, plus advertising data via Google AdMob if you're on the free tier and have granted App Tracking Transparency permission. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How do I stop personalised ads?
Two options: (1) upgrade to Premium to remove all ads, or (2) iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → turn tracking off for VidPlay. The banner will continue to show but will serve non-personalised ads.
